Many good things have been accomplished at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission over the last 5 ½ years:
Over 84,000 orders have been issued in the overall effort to consistently balance and protect the needs of Oklahoma’s citizens and the businesses we regulate.
In 2006, Oklahoma became the first state to have DSL installed in every telephone exchange, which has been a great boost to the entire state especially those in rural Oklahoma.
On the oil and gas side, the Corporation Commission sets the national standard on pollution abatement, preventing waste and protecting the correlative rights of mineral and royalty owners.
A conversion from microfiche to the online internet access has taken place regarding every Commission order so that every Oklahoman can now access that much needed information electronically rather than having to sift through stacks of microfiche at the Jim Thorpe Building.
There is still a lot left to do: We must continue with planning to address the long-term electric power needs of this state. Rising energy costs will impact every Oklahoman and the Corporation Commission will need to be aggressively innovative to ease that heavy burden as much as reasonably possible. We will need to continue to develop Oklahoma's wind generation potential. In 2003, zero major wind generation, except for metered amounts received back from customer wind units, directly hooked up to Oklahoma utilities. Now, with about 700 MW of wind generation currently in operation, Oklahoma's developed wind farm capacity ranks No. 9 nationally and many experts forecast that Oklahoma will be No. 1 by 2018. Also, nuclear power needs to be in the long-term energy portfolio of our state.
protect consumers and allow regulated companies a fair return so that investment in Oklahoma will continue.

Innovation
whether it be in information technology, rural development or the long-term electric power needs of Oklahoma, we need to continue to be aggressively innovative to keep moving Oklahoma forward.
