My decision to run was made after witnessing some of our elected politicians refuse to even conduct hearings on “Nick’s Law”, a law that would help children with Autism and lighten the burden many families are facing. Seeing politicians turn their backs on children with Autism was a sign that special interests are a greater priority than our families. That is wrong and things must change. I feel called to run, so that maybe I can make a difference when it comes to helping those that too often go unheard.
My life is about service. Serving and assisting our community is at the core of who I am. Having worked at Griffin Memorial Hospital as a psychiatric nurse I have seen first hand the needs of our health care system. I want to represent you at our Capitol, so I can do my part in speaking up for our children, seniors and others in need, while working to bring economic development to Oklahoma.
Cindy, my wife, and I work to teach our two young boys the importance of family, hard work and taking responsibility. It is challenging at times, but the reward of seeing our children grow and mature is one of God's greatest blessings. The parable of Matthew 25:40 is a guide to how I try to live my life and Cindy, and I try to raise our children.
Oklahoma needs policies that reward hard work, not companies who know how to work the system. We must be proactive in developing an environment that fosters the growth of small businesses and in building an infrastructure that helps them grow into bigger businesses. In order to attract outside companies to locate here in Oklahoma, we must not ignore those businesses that are already here. Our Oklahoma Bussinesses need to be free to grow and we must provide them with the tools necessary so that their employees can have great wages and benefits. The need for quality and affordable healthcare is necessary for Oklahoma’s economic future and we need to assist more of Oklahoma’s businesses that offer healthcare to their employees.
Nick’s Law
It is important that we pass Nick’s Law and assist parents of children with Autism, so that their children can receive the early intervention they need that will fully develop their potential. We can not allow insurance companies to skirt their responsibilities. If we ignore these children it will cost the taxpayers many times over to deal with the problems when these children become adults. It is embarrassing that career politicians have sided with the insurance companies over some of our most vulnerable children.
Protecting Seniors
Protecting Our Seniors
As a health care professional, I have over a decade of experience dealing with long-term health care issues. I would be honored to put that knowledge to use as your State Senator as we deal with our growing senior population. Our parents and grandparents were there when we needed them. It is now time for us to repay that compassion and love, by looking out for them as they begin their golden years.
Education
Our committment to public education is one of the cornerstones of our country’s success. Over a hundred years ago, our public officials understood the importance of having all children reach their full potential through commonly available education. We will not improve public education by throwing more tax dollars into our schools without demanding more accountability. We need to allow our teachers to teach. We need to pay our teachers a market wage and we must reduce the bureaucracy that is holding back and crippling our public schools.
We need to help our children as they prepare for college and help strengthen our
vocational education system, which is an example of excellence. When a young adult graduates from high school in Oklahoma, we need to make sure they are prepared to build their career and have the tools necessary to build a better Oklahoma.
2nd Amendment
I am a fervent believer in The U.S. Constitution and our Bill of Rights. The 2nd Amendment is a fundamental right, which is just as important as Freedom of Speech, Assembly and Religion. You can not pick and choose which rights to support and which to ignore. As a member of the National Rifle Association, I will protect our 2nd Amendment Rights. Our Founding Fathers understood the importance of the right to keep and bear arms. When they wrote the Constitution they knew that the lessons of history have shown that tyrants eliminated resistance and suppressed dissent by taking away the people's arms and making it an offense to keep them. I also believe that self-defense is a central component of our 2nd Amendment Rights and will work to make sure all Oklahomans are secure and are able to protect themselves and their families.
